This is an excellent acne body scrub - it helps cleanse and balance normal and oily, acne-prone skin by reducing over-active oil production.
(It's not the best choice for dry skin, however - try the oatmeal body scrub or the brown sugar body scrub if you have dry skin, or the yogurt & honey body scrub if you have sensitive or problem skin.)
Added Bonus: Scrubbing away dead skin cells helps remove toxins and junk from your system, which in turn helps keep you healthy. (Salt is also a natural detoxifier. Click here to learn more about types of salt and their healing properties - it's surprisingly interesting!)
1/2 cup (110g) Sea Salt
2 tablespoons (30ml) Grapeseed or other carrier oil of your choice
1 to 2 teaspoons Aloe Vera gel, depending on how moist you like your scrub
8 drops Orange essential oil
5 drops Peppermint essential oil
2 drops Rosemary essential oil
1.
Using a metal spoon, stir together salt and oil in a glass or ceramic bowl (or even the jar you intend to keep it in - remember to use dark glass or PET plastic.)
2.
Drop in the essential oils, placing each drop in its own little spot on top of the body salt scrub mixture. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
3.
To use, take a quick, warm shower to wet your skin. Standing in the bathtub, massage the body salt scrub into your skin using gentle circular motions until your skin is rosy from the increased circulation.
4.
Rinse off under the shower, towel dry and moisturize.
Sweet Orange essential oil can cause photo-sensitivity and sunburn. Do not use before sun exposure.
Do not use body scrub salt recipes on broken or irritated skin, and avoid your face and genitals.
Here's a great secret for incredibly soft, smooth skin.
After you're done exfoliating, step out of the shower and wrap your hair in a towel but DON'T DRY OFF. Before you dry off, rub a body oil into your wet skin. (By the time you're done, your skin will have absorbed the oil, so your towel won't get all oily.)
That's it! Simple, quick and super-effective!
There's so much more to essential oils than meets the eye. Their
molecules are so tiny that they absorb deep into your body in a matter
of moments.
If the essential oil you buy is filled with additives (to "stretch"
the scent) and fragrance boosters, those potentially harmful ingredients
are also absorbed straight into your body. Not ideal!
For instance, my mom and I get instant headaches with most kinds of
lavender oil. That's because of the extra "lavender" scent that's added
to make it smell stronger. But when it's pure lavender - nothing else -
no headaches.
I've used many brands over the last 12 years or so and what I know
for sure is, you get what you pay for. So I recommend buying the highest
quality essential oils you can afford.
