The sweet, sensual scent of ylang ylang essential oil melts away stress, tension and anxiety, bringing you to a state of deep, peaceful calm.

It relaxes tense muscles, calms fear and promotes feelings of ease and confidence - it's often used for supporting people coping with sexual fears, anxieties or discomfort.

Ylang oil is balancing and restorative, helpful for depression (including postpartum 'blues') and hormonal imbalances.

It's also said to help slow rapid breathing and heartbeat and to lower blood pressure. Try using it for panic attacks.

Ylang ylang is sometimes used to replace jasmine (which is much more expensive) in aromatherapy blends.

Its scent is very intense and tends to overpower other essential oils, so use sparingly in blends (and on its own, actually - it's STRONG!)

Botanical Name and Characteristics

Cananga odorata

Ylang ylang is a tropical evergreen tree that grows up to 60 feet (20m) high. It has glossy green leaves and large, fragrant starfish-shaped pink, mauve or yellow-green flowers.

Ylang ylang oil is steam distilled from the freshly picked flowers. There are several grades of ylang ylang essential oil which are extracted at different times during the distillation process.

The first extraction, called "Extra" is considered to be the best quality, since it contains the highest amount of esters and has the most intensely sweet scent. Subsequent extractions (called grades 1, 2 and 3) are often combined with the Extra to form a "Complete" ylang-ylang essential oil.

A Ylang Ylang Absolute and Ylang Ylang Concrete are also produced by solvent extraction.

Intensely sweet, exotic floral scent.

Buy Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Click here to buy ylang ylang oil from Mountain Rose Herbs (scroll way down the page; they're in alphabetical order.)

I always recommend Mountain Rose first because I like and trust them. Their quality is excellent, their prices are good, and many of their essential oils are organic (and all of them are therapeutic grade.)

Or you could shop for ylang oil at Amazon. They have a number of different brands available at a variety of prices. (Just remember, you get what you pay for.) Happy hunting!

caution Buyer Beware: Don't be fooled - if the label or product description says "fragrance oil" it's synthetic, and not true ylang oil at all.
