Using Cocoa Butter in Body Butter

by Cynthia
(Atlanta Ga)

I use Cocoa Butter in my body butter. The cocoa butter melts down fine and when it cools it still blends with the shea and oils nicely. My problem is that after a week or two the cocoa butter starts to form little balls in my smooth butter.

Cocoa butter overdose :) NEW

If the "little balls" are squishy, kind of like tapioca, it's usually because there's too much cocoa butter in the recipe. I don't know the science, but I've seen this discussed in other places.
Swapping out some of the cocoa for more coconut or shea whould fix it next time.

I am not sure if the balls you mentioned are hard or crystallised. If so, melt the cocoa butter in a double boiler (or equivalent)for 20 minutesover a low heat. This should stop it from forming any 'balls' in your formula and leave it smooth. Hope this helps.
