Pain Relief Aromatherapy Massage Oil Recipe
A soothing essential oil body massage blend for aching muscles and joints
There's nothing like a gentle massage to relieve your throbbing headache, aching back or stiff, sore muscles and joints.
This soothing, pain-fighting aromatherapy massage oil recipe helps relax tight muscles,
reduce inflammation (pain and swelling) and calm wound-up nerves. In fact, it will ease the pain of just about any part of you!
Lavender, marjoram and cedar essential oils, combined with gentle massage, make this body massage oil recipe perfect for
pain due to arthritis, exercise, falls, colds and flu, as well as general muscle stiffness.
Ingredients
- 8 drops Lavender essential oil
- 4 drops Marjoram essential oil
- 1 drop Cedar essential oil
- 1 drop Chamomile essentail oil (either German or Roman is fine)
- 1 drop Ginger essential oil
- 4 tablespoons (60ml) carrier oil of your choice such as
apricot kernel oil,
jojoba oil or
sunflower oil
- Optional: Substitute 1 tablespoon (15ml) borage oil for 1 tablespoon of carrier oil.
Borage oil helps support mobility of joints and tissues.
Method
Combine all ingredients in a dark glass or PET plastic bottle.
(I recommend using one with an oil or lotion dispenser cap so you don't accidentally pour it all over everything.)
Wait at least 24 hours after blending to let the aromas 'cure'. Remember to keep the bottle in a cool, dark place. Use within three months.
If you want to make a larger amount of this body massage oil recipe, depending on the size of the bottle, simply double or triple the recipe.
(Remember it tends to go rancid after about three months.)
Caution
Ginger may irritate sensitive skin, which is why it's at such a low concentration.
If you're exceptionally sensitive, leave it out.
If you're allergic to ragweed, you may also want to leave out the chamomile.
Where to Get Stuff
You can find a good selection of basic ingredients such as carrier oils from Mountain Rose Herbs,
as well as any essential oils you might need.
They also have some great glass bottles for storing your aromatherapy recipes.
(Just remember to use them up quickly if you choose clear glass - essential oils are light sensitive.)
Using Your Pain Relief Body Massage Oil
You can use this massage oil recipe to 'spot treat' sore joints or muscles (such as knees or hands) by gently
rubbing the massage oil into the affected area. (Try rubbing it into your lower abdomen if you have period cramps.)
You can also use it as a whole body massage oil for all-over aches and pains, such as when you have the flu or you've over-worked your muscles.

Either way, you'll find that not only is your pain eased but your mental and emotional state will be calmed and balanced as well,
which makes it easier to cope with pain generally. So even if you still hurt a bit, you'll feel better anyway!
