My lotion is not thickening

I followed the recipe exactly, and everything is blended nicely. However, it it not thick, or even creamy. It is actually oily. I repeated twice making two batches, and have the same result. If there was a problem with my emulsifying wax would the mixture of water and oil not blend?

How to thicken your lotion recipe

Hi there,

It sounds like you're using a different type of emulsifying wax than I am. Try doubling the amount of wax but leaving all the rest of the ingredients the same. If that doesn't work, add even more wax. If THAT doesn't work, you might need to buy a different kind of emulsifying wax.

Also, if you're finding the recipe is too greasy, replace some or all of the oil with grapeseed oil. It's very light, quickly absorbed into the skin, and it's good for all skin types (but especially good for oily skin.)

Making lotion can be a bit of a process in terms of getting it to the perfect consistency. Just keep experimenting until you get what you want. And take notes!!! I always forget and then regret it later...
