Looking for a Tiger Balm Recipe

I am looking to make my own tiger balm recipe, but I am having trouble finding a recipe that has the main ingredients.

Can anyone help me would really appreciate it

Hi Kyley

Thank you so much for finding a recipe for Tiger Balm, and to Primrose, I have only just managed to make it, as been very busy finsihing off my college course to be aromatherapist, which I have now passed.

I sort of took both recipes and pulled them together to make this, and it does seem to come out ok, the only thing that I haven't been able to master within this is the hot feeling you get once you apply it the skin.

My recipe is as follows;
4tsp Shea Butter
3tbsp Olive Oil
2tbsp Jojoba oil
1 tbsp camphor EO
1 tsp beeswax

I then added up all the teaspoons and tablespoons together to get it into mls then worked out how many drops to use of essential oils on a 2% dilution, the Essential Oils that I used are the following;
Peppermint, eucalyptus globulus, clove, camphor, cajeput, cinnamon

Any suggestions on what to use for the heatness on the skin?

Tiger Balm

4 tsp Shea butter
3 tbsp of vegetable oil
2 tbsp of jojoba oil
1 cake (1 tbsp) camphor gum
15 ml peppermint oil
15 ml eucalyptus oil
10 ml of lavender oil
1 tsp beeswax pellets

Melt Shea butter, oil and jojoba and crumble camphor gum into the mix.
(Use rubber gloves, unless you want your hands to smell of this stuff for days). When it is liquid add essential oils and pour into a 4 oz container and let set. It will be a thin ointment that will relieve tired muscles.

My jar of Tiger Balm doesn't have any ingredients on it, so I'm not exactly sure what the recipe needs to match.

I found this recipe at care2.com...

10 drops essential oil of peppermint
10 drops essential oil of eucalyptus
5 drops essential oil of clove
60 ml olive oil or coconut oil
15 g beeswax

Heat olive oil and beeswax in a double-boiler over low heat. Stir until wax is melted. Remove from heat. Stir in essential oils and pour into small glass or metal containers to cool.

Commercial Tiger Balm is available in several strengths, and you may adjust quantities of essential oils in this recipe.
(Adapted from A Thai Herbal, by C. Pierce Salguero (Findhorn Press, 2003).

My tiger balm smells like it has cinnamon in it, so I'd probably replace 4 or 5 drops of the eucalyptus with cinnamon eo.

I found another recipe for tiger balm that said to use Camphor, Clove, Cajeput and Cassia eo's, but it called for petroleum jelly, and that stuff is BAD for you.

Maybe try a small batch of the first recipe, then adjust the next batch and so on until you get the scent and strength you want. The first recipe will definitely work for clearing congestion and relieving pain, even if it doesn't smell exactly like what you're used to.
