great cold throw, weak to non existent hot throw

by jason

hi. when i make my soy candles using ecosya cb advanced, i get a great strong cold throw. so strong it can fill a room.

the tarts will fill a house when warmed, but when i light the candles there is little to no scent at all.

i heat the wax to 190, adding my dye chip at 185 and stirring till 190. i remove from the double boiler and stir the wax occasionally until it cools down to 155. then i add my FO and stir 20 times each way, then directly pour into the preheated jars, which are smooth sided glass 8 oz. jelly jars.

i am using rrd paper/cotton wicks that burn beautifully. i tried to experiment with the temps. don't know what else to do. i am using 1 oz of FO per pound of wax.

Poor Scent Throw with Eco Soya CB
by: Kyley

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your post.

It sounds like you're doing everything right. The only thing I can recommend is changing your soy wax. Different types of wax can handle different percentages of fragrance, so since everything else is right, I can only think that that's the variable that might solve the problem. That said, soy wax just doesn't have the same scent throw as paraffin - ever. (Of course, it doesn't poison you like paraffin either!)

CB in soy wax usually means Container Blend, so maybe try the EcoSoya® PB Pillar Blend, which Candlewic says has a good scent throw. For container candles, maybe switch to Cargill's Nature Wax c-3, which is supposed to be good for scent throw. Candle Wax

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. If you do try a different wax and get better results, would you mind letting me know? Lots of candle makers have this same problem, and it would be nice to give them some good working solutions.

Thanks for your post, and best of luck Jason!
