Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin
A light water based moisturizer recipe to balance oily, acne-prone skin
Make this light, healing water based moisturizer to refresh and balance oily, acne-prone skin.
It's the best moisturizer for oily skin I've made yet!
Its cool, minty scent lifts your energy and your mood - for a happy start to your day,
use it on your face and body after your morning shower.
Note: It's imporant not to neglect moisturizing your skin, even when you have acne.
Cleansing your face strips away your skin's natural oils,
and if you don't replace them your skin will do it for you, producing even more oil than before.
This homemade lotion recipe includes peppermint and tea tree to balance oil production and eliminate acne-causing bacteria.
Aloe vera and witch hazel calm irritation and promote healthy skin.
Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons (6 to 8g) Emulsifying wax
- 1/3 cup (75ml) Grapeseed OR Jojoba oil
- 2 tablespoons (25ml) Aloe Vera gel
- 1/2 cup (125ml) Witch Hazel
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) Vitamin E
- 10 drops Tea Tree essential oil
- 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops Petitgrain OR Lemongrass essential oil
- 1 drop Jasmine OR Ylang Ylang
- 10 drops Grapefruit Seed extract
Directions
- Stir together the oil and emulsifying wax in a glass heat-safe measuring cup (such as Pyrex.)
- Place the measuring cup in a pot of water and warm slowly over a low heat,
stirring occasionally, until the wax is melted.
Remove from heat. Add the Vitamin E.
- Pour the witch hazel and aloe vera into a large glass heat-safe measuring cup. Stir to combine.
- In a separate pot on the stove (using the water-bath method as above) or in the microwave, gently warm the witch hazel mixture until it's lukewarm.
- Slowly pour the oil mixture into the witch hazel mixture, stirring constantly with a wire whisk.
- Stir in the essential oils and the grapefruit seed extract.
- Pour the lotion into a clean, sterilized 8oz (250ml) dark glass or PET plastic bottle
and allow it to cool before putting the cap on.
- Shake the bottle occasionally as the lotion cools to prevent the ingredients from separating.
Store in a cool, dark place.
This skin lotion recipe makes approximately 8oz (250ml) of moisturizer for oily skin.
Use it after washing and toning your face every morning.
It's also suitable as an all-over body lotion.
To complete your skin care routine, also make this
skin balancing cleanser and
astringent toner.

Best Moisturizer for Oily Skin Customizing Your Homemade Lotion Recipe
For a thicker consistency, add a little more emulsifying wax (up to a half a teaspoon.)
For a thinner consistency, add a little less.
You can also reduce the strength of the scent by decreasing the number of drops of essential oils.
Do not increase the essential oils, however, since they should only be a certain percentage of the total recipe.
Experiment to see what you like best.

My favorite supplier for aromatherapy recipe ingredients is Mountain Rose Herbs.
Their prices are good, their staff are friendly and helpful, and their quality is excellent.

Where to Buy Organic Acne Lotion
I found a great company called Just Natural
that makes really good organic skin (and hair) care products.
They make a really nice organic
acne day cream that helps control oiliness and get rid of acne-causing bacteria without clogging pores.
