Benzoin for Scent Throw in Candle Making

by Lynn
(Charlotte, NC)

THE QUESTION

Has anyone heard of Benzoin, a fixative, that is supposed to make the essential oil scent stronger in candles. Are there any other additives or fixatives I could or should use?

THE ANSWER

Benzoin is an essential oil often used as a fixative. It's a thick, resinous oil with a slightly vanilla-like scent. It's quite nice and would likely be good far candle making.

Patchouli is also used as a fixative in perfumery, so that might be a good one to try.

Hope that helps, and best of luck Lynn!
