Benzoin Essential Oil

Relaxing, pain-relieving, healing

Benzoin essential oil has a sweet, cinnamon-vanilla scent that calms your nerves and relaxes your muscles.

It's excellent for easing chest congestion (also asthma, bronchitis and coughs) - ideal for sleep-inducing cold remedies.

Benzoin, also called Gum Benjamin, is used in incense, and as a natural fixative and preservative in cosmetics and a fixative in perfumes.

Made from the sap of the benzoin tree, its consistency is thick and viscous (do not use it in your aromatherapy nebulizer - it'll gum it up!)

In skincare, benzoin is excellent for healing wounds, dry, cracked skin, eczema and psoriasis. It also improves the elasticity of aging skin and is said to help remove age spots.

Emotionally, benzoin is often used to help ease loneliness or sadness and in cases where someone is being overly demanding.

Botanical Name and Characteristics

Styrax benzoin

The benzoin tree grows about 20 feet (8m) tall and has fragrant white flowers.

To extract benzoin, deep cuts are made in the trunk of the tree until a grayish colored sap comes out. The sap is collected when it becomes hard and brittle. Benzoin oil is extracted from the resin by solvent extraction.

Sweet, warm vanilla scent with a hint of cinnamon.
