Take a deep breath! All will be well (my personal mantra when I'm coming unraveled!)
On this page I've gathered my favorite calming, comforting recipes for aromatherapy stress reduction.
Use them any time you feel the urge to scream coming on... or better, even before that!
More and more people (even - gasp! - doctors) are turning to aromatherapy stress remedies because they're proven to
relieve anxiety, relax tension and calm rocketing nerves.
Aromatherapy cheers you up while at the same time it also calms you down.
(Calm is good, happy is better, calm AND happy is the best!)
Now... Before we jump into the home remedies for stress, let's take a quick look at the workings of aromatherapy stress relief.
How Does Aromatherapy Stress Reduction Work?
Aromatherapy triggers a positive emotional and physical response by stimulating your body's limbic (emotional) and endocrine (hormonal) systems.
For example, when you smell Lavender essential oil, its microscopic chemicals immediately trigger your system to calm your nervous system and relax your muscles.

Research on Aromatherapy Stress Reduction... The Results Are In!
- Several studies over the past few years have found that Alzheimer's sufferers became less agitated when treated with lavender and melissa (lemon balm) essential oils.
- A study of depressed men showed that using citrus essential oils reduced their intake of antidepressants.
- Studies have found that marjoram essential oil increases production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood.
- Research has shown that ylang-ylang essential oil boosts the body's production of endorphins (hormones that produce feelings of well-being and pain reduction.)
There you have it, folks! Aromatherapy is a proven natural remedy for stress relief.

Aromatherapy Stress Relief Strategy: Take a Time-Out!
Yes, I know you've heard this before, but self care is critical in fighting stress.
So many of us say "I just don't have time to take care of myself."
But really, the cost of not doing so is just too high. When we burn out we're no good to anyone. You gotta break the "doing too much" habit!
If you're feeling completely out of control, start by taking at least two five minute breaks a day to calm and center yourself.
(This really works!)
Stop doing all the million things on your plate. Just stop and breathe.
Increase this to 15 minutes as your tolerance increases.
If even that's too hard (been there!) then use this handy aromatherapy inhaler recipe to give yourself something to do during your five minutes.
Aromatherapy Stress Reduction Recipe: Make Your Own Inhaler
This nifty little aromatherapy stress remedy is great because you can carry it in your bag or keep it in your desk (keep an extra one in your car - it's great for road rage!) and use it whenever you need a time-out.
Pour a teaspoon of coarse sea salt in a very small
dark glass or PET plastic bottle
and add:
- 10 drops bergamot essential oil
- 4 drops lavender essential oil
- 4 drops sweet orange essential oil
- 1 drop rose geranium essential oil
- 1 drop ylang ylang essential oil
To use, take three long, slow, deep breaths of the aroma. Take a short break, then take three more deep breaths.
Do this three times to get some serious aromatherapy stress relief.
Need Supplies?
You can buy salt at any grocery store. If you want to buy it in quantity and also use it for
bath salt recipes
(and why not - a nice relaxing bath is one of the best home remedies for stress you can make!) then I recommend
Mountain Rose Herbs.
Their quality, prices and service are the best I've found.
