Make your own essential oil home made cleaners

aromatherapy kitchen recipes Aromatherapy kitchen recipes for homemade cleaning solutions are simple but effective. Plus, you can often make them with ingredients already in your cupboards.

I buy almost no commercial cleaning products at all any more because I'd rather make my own. I know exactly what's in them, I know that they're eco-friendly, and I know they work.

Here are a few of my favorite aromatherapy kitchen recipes; tried, tested and refined until perfect.

Disinfectant Cleaning Spray

This is one of the quickest, easiest homemade cleaning recipes you'll ever make.

You can use it everywhere: Spray it on your sinks, toilets and countertops to disinfect them. Spray it onto a cloth and damp-wipe to dust your furniture. Use it to clean your car, your office, your patio furniture...

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon borax
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 30 drops essential oil (jump down to essential oil blends)

Directions

  1. Boil the water. Pour it into a large glass measuring cup or pitcher with a spout.
  2. Add the borax and stir until dissolved.
  3. Add the vinegar.
  4. Let cool, then pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
  5. Drop in the essential oils.

Caution

Add the essential oils AFTER you pour the cleaner into the bottle because the essential oil's scent can "stick" to your measuring cup or pitcher.

Do not use this recipe to clean windows, mirrors or glass; it will cause streaks.

Aromatherapy Homemade Glass Cleaner

The secret to home made aromatherapy spray cleaner for glass is to just use vinegar and essential oils.

Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar, drop in a few essential oils (around 3 to 5 depending on the size of the bottle) and voila! a grease-cutting, streak-free, aromatic glass cleaner!

No-Rinse Aromatherapy Floor Cleaner

This is one of the easiest aromatherapy kitchen recipes ever - just make it right in your kitchen sink! It really cuts into grease and grime, and it kills any germs or bacteria caught living on your floors. Plus, it smells awesome!

Fill a bucket (or your sink) with hot water. Pour in about 1/4 cup (a splash) of white vinegar. Add 15 drops essential oil.

That's it - just wash and let dry. No fuss, no muss, and it works on ceramic tile, vinyl, laminate and hardwood floors. I love this recipe!

Make Your Own Essential Oil Blends for Cleaning

Here are a few suggestions for mood-lifting, stress-reducing, germ-killing essential oil blends for your aromatherapy kitchen recipes.

Lavender 'n Lemon

Equal parts lavender and lemon essential oils

(So 15 drops lavender and 15 drops lemon for the disinfectant cleaning spray recipe above)

Mint Refresher

Equal parts eucalyptus, peppermint and orange essential oils

(So 10 drops each for the all-purpose spray, or 1 drop each for the glass cleaner)

Citrus Sparkle

Equal parts lemon, lemongrass and palmarosa essential oils

Aromatherapy Quick Trick for Dishsoap

(Yep, this is cheating - but SO Easy!) Buy a good, eco-friendly, unscented liquid dishsoap for sensitive skin. Add 10 drops each of lavender and lemon essential oil for each 4fl oz (125ml) dishwashing liquid. Shake well.

Adding lavender and lemon not only makes your dishsoap smell wonderful, but it kills germs and bacteria and helps cut grease. Yummy and effective!
